Use Pulses to Make a Mosaic

Use dry pulses to create mosaic art! This fun tactile craft can be as simple or complex as you'd like.

Materials:

  • Craft paper

  • Dry pulses, like lentils, dry beans, or dry peas

  • Pencil

  • Glue

  • Scissors

  • String

  • Paint (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Draw an outline of a shape, animal, or object on your construction paper. We chose a bird to celebrate spring! Cut out your shape.

Step 2: Poke a string through the top of your shape and tie it in a loop. This way, you'll be able to hang up your art as a decoration!

Step 3: Using glue, cover your shape in your pulse of choice. You can keep it simple and use naturally coloured dry beans or lentils if you would like, or you can cover them in paint ahead of time. That way, you'll have more colours to use in your mosaic. To make your pulses colourful, pour them into separate Ziploc bags. Add paint to each bag, seal the bag, and shake the bag until all the pulses are covered. Pour them out onto a surface like a paper plate and let dry.

Step 4: Use different colours to add details! Be as creative as you'd like.

Step 5: Let dry, and hang up your art!
