Ever wonder how butter is made? Find out by making your very own at home or in the classroom!
Ingredients:
Heavy whipping cream (33% or higher)
Jar
½ tsp salt (optional)
Directions:
Fill the jar no more than halfway with the heavy whipping cream. There must be room to shake!
Add the salt (optional).
Shake the jar for about 10 minutes.
Check it! If the consistency looks like whipped cream, keep shaking. It’s not ready until there is complete separation of butter and buttermilk. Take turns shaking the jar with others if you get tired.
Strain the buttermilk that separates from the butter. Save the buttermilk to use in other recipes like pancakes, biscuits, scones, bread, etc.
Rinse the butter.
Spread on food of your choice and eat!
