Ag for Life’s ThinkAg Careers Expo allows students to explore the endless career and entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture, learn about modern food production and discover the diversity of agriculture-related career options.
On November 9, 2016, Ag for Life hosted two pilot ThinkAg Careers Expos in partnership with Alberta’s largest agriculture shows: Agri-Trade at Westerner Park in Red Deer and Farmfair International at Northlands Expo Centre in Edmonton.
The program is a full-day agriculture career exploration for junior high and high school students. In small groups, classes will have the opportunity to travel through six 15-minute stations, participating in hands-on activities while they learn about different ‘clusters’ of careers in agriculture. They will also have the opportunity to tour the shows and view the agriculture industry in action. This program has multiple connections to both high school and junior high programs of studies. In particular, Career and Technology Foundations and Career and Technology Studies outcomes will be focused on as students build their career portfolio. As well, science, biology, social studies, CALM, and language arts outcomes will be addressed.
