(Vermilion May 3, 2016) – Agriculture for Life, Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, and Lakeland College are teaming up to offer a Young Farm Worker Safety training workshop to local high school students on May 10, 2016 at Lakeland College. The workshop provides students in Grades 10 -12 from the region the opportunity to learn the necessary skills to keep themselves and those around them safe on the farm and at future work environments.
The focus of the Young Farm Workers workshop is to provide participants with hands-on, engaging, educational safety programming with the ultimate goal of eliminating farm site injuries and fatalities. Participants learn about a wide variety of safety topics delivered by local volunteers and safety experts. Sessions will include large equipment, ATV, utilities, fire extinguisher training, chemical handling, cattle and equine safety. Participants will have the opportunity to select from several sessions to meet their employment needs and interests.
