Career and Technology Foundations Challenges

At Ag for Life, we know that there are many amazing career options worth exploring within the agriculture industry. That’s why we’ve developed learning challenges in partnership with Alberta Education.

These challenges support the Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) curriculum in grades 5-9. They allow students to explore various career pathways within the agriculture industry while integrating other core subject outcomes. These challenges can easily be modified to meet learner needs. Check back soon for additional content.

Food Security Challenge:

Students will research the issue of food security in rural areas of Alberta. Challenges for rural residents sometimes include access to fresh, healthy food at low prices, particularly if a family is struggling economically.

Students will create a marketing plan to recruit volunteers to grow and donate their produce to the local food bank.

Future of Farming Challenge:

Students will study new technologies in agriculture that reduce the environmental impact of the agriculture industry. They will learn about the role of agronomists in the agriculture industry and will make recommendations to farmers.

Our world’s population is expected to rise significantly, and the resources that we use in food production are becoming more and more limited. These are real-world issues that will have a significant impact on students.  Students know they need to dream big to come up with solutions, and those dreams can start right now.
