Meeting Warren Lake is akin to meeting the high school teacher you wish you had – especially if you’re interested in agriculture. After the first five minutes spent walking the halls of Robert Thirsk High School in Northwest Calgary, the
cheery interactions he has with various students confirms Lake’s likeability and respect among staff and students alike.
Walking through the cafeteria, Lake pauses to show what he refers to as the ‘Living Wall.’ It’s what it sounds like – a
living wall. Plants grow out of small pots, irrigated by a tubing a system running through the back of the wall. “In the winter,” Lake says, “we fill the wall with an arrangement of poinsettias for Christmas.”
