For Immediate Release
(Calgary, AB, April 20, 2018) – Agriculture for Life (Ag for Life) is proud to announce the launch of its all-new Rural Safety Unit. The Unit will travel to schools, communities, fairs, festivals and other events to educate, encourage and promote rural and farm safety.
“Agriculture is reported to be one of the most hazardous industries in Canada, with many agriculture workers and their families suffering serious incidents and fatalities each year,” said Luree Williamson, CEO Ag for Life. “With an estimated reach of over 30,000 children, youth and adults per year, the mobile unit is the perfect vehicle for delivering farm safety education and helping to build stronger, safer rural communities.”
The unit has seven interactive stations offering users the opportunity to learn while they engage with digital, tactile, and mechanical interactive displays. Safety topics include: Hazard Identification, Large Animals, Large Equipment, Utilities, Risk Assessment, Chemicals and Protective Equipment.
The Rural Safety Unit will operate between April and October each year. School programs are geared towards grades 4-12 and community event programming can be tailored towards families attending. Bookings for the unit are being accepted online at www.ruralsafetyunit.ca.
The Rural Safety Unit is made possible thanks to capital investment from Nutrien, a truck donation from TransCanada and fuel sponsor, UFA. Ongoing support for Ag for Life’s rural and farm safety programming is provided by Founding Members: ATCO Group, AdFarm, Glacier FarmMedia, Nutrien, TransCanada Corporation, Rocky Mountain Equipment and UFA Co-operative Limited.
“As an agriculture company that works closely with growers, we are proud our investment has helped make the Rural Safety Unit a reality,” said Nutrien’s Lee Knafelc, Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer. “Because safety is a core value at Nutrien, we not only want to see our employees get home safe every day, we want that for farmers, their families and ag workers as well.”
Organizations can partner with Ag for Life to help drive safety in rural communities through the Rural Safety Unit. Interested organizations can contact email@example.com for more information about sponsorship opportunities.
