(CALGARY, AB, June 6, 2017) – Ag for Life is pleased to announce it has received a $10,000 grant from the McCain Foundation in support of its agriculture education initiates. The funds will support the development and delivery of its Agriculture Education Toolkit.

The Toolkit supports teachers and students as they bring agriculture education into the classroom and learn where their food comes from. This kit includes information such as provincial statistics, facts and F&Q’s, agricultural terminology, supplemental resources and learning activities, key contacts, such as producer groups and agriculture educational programs available to schools. Information highlights key sectors of Alberta agriculture including crops, cattle, poultry, eggs, pork, and food production.

With a mandate to deliver agriculture education to Albertans, Ag for Life brings together corporate stakeholders, not-for-profit organizations along with farmers, ranchers, and community leaders to deliver curriculum based agriculture education to rural students.  In 2016, Ag for Life agriculture education programs reached more than 52,000 children, youth, and adults; with the support of The McCain Foundation, these vital programs can continue to expand.

“The support of The McCain Foundation will allow us to expand our programs and develop online resources that can be accessed and utilized by people across the country,” said Ag for Life CEO Luree Williamson. “We are so honoured to have this support,” adds Williamson.

Linda McCain of The McCain Foundation comments: ”The roots of The McCain Foundation lie deep within farming, agriculture and food production – the single most important industry for generations past, present and future. The Foundation are proud to be supporting this important program. By connecting children to where their food comes from, I believe we can ultimately foster healthier and more sustainable lifestyles. Who knows, we may even inspire a future generation of farmers!”

Ag for Life’s programs includes ThinkAg Careers, Agriculture 101: Food and Farming, Farm Tour for Teachers, Alberta Open Farm Days, and numerous on-farm education programs.  The agriculture education programs focus on teaching students, youth and their families about the agriculture industry and the important role agriculture plays in all of our lives.
