Ted Menzies bring vast agricultural experience, industry leadership and community involvement as new Director on Ag for Life Board

(CALGARY, AB, June 27, 2018) – Ag for Life, an organization dedicated to delivering educational programming that serves to improve rural and farm safety and build a genuine understanding and appreciation of the impact agriculture has on lives, is bolstering the depth and experience of its board with the recent appointment of Ted Menzies.

Ag for Life CEO Luree Williamson comments, “The appointment of Ted to our board expands our capabilities and deepens our connections with Rural Alberta and the agricultural sector. We look forward to tapping into his experience as our organization moves towards our long-term goals around improving farm safety and the public’s appreciation of agriculture.”

Ted Menzies

During a lengthy career in primary production of grains, pulse crops and oilseeds, Ted played an active role in policy development in agricultural as well as international trade through various commodity organizations.  Some of his involvement included President of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers, founding member and Vice President of Grain Growers of Canada, President of the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance and director on many other boards and committees.

In 2004, Ted was first elected as the Member of Parliament for the Southern Alberta federal riding of Macleod. In 2006, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade as well as to the Minister for the Canadian International Development Agency and then in 2007, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance.

In 2011, Ted was appointed to the Queens Privy Council as Minister of State for Finance. Besides domestic finance responsibilities overseeing the departments of Agriculture, Fisheries and Oceans, Aboriginal and Northern Affairs and International Development, his role included engagement with the international development banks, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and Canada’s Governor at the annual Finance Ministers meetings at the OECD.

Ted retired from politics in November 2013, becoming President and CEO of CropLife Canada until retiring in 2017, and now has more time to promote agriculture on several national and regional boards.

“It is an honour for me to join a group of dedicated agriculture industry leaders on the board of Ag for Life.  I firmly believe in the mandate of Ag for Life and I am impressed by the ongoing commitment and quality of programming the organization delivers,” said Ted Menzies.
