Who I Am: Carol is committed to working with UFA’s members, agents and employees to preserve the strong co-operative history in Alberta and to continue building UFA into a success on the local and global landscape. Carol is a proven leader who has grown up in, and dedicated her career to, agriculture. She has more than 23 years of co-operative, finance and business experience.
Prior to joining UFA, Carol was senior vice-president and business unit general manager, Global Dairy Ingredients at Land O’Lakes Inc. with US$1.8 billion of annual revenue. During her 16 years there, her positions included senior vice-president of Corporate Strategy and Business Development, as well as vice president responsible for international growth, and business controller during her 10 years in the feed business unit. Carol, a certified public accountant with an MBA, also worked for an international accounting firm for two years, and the balance of her career has been spent working with agricultural co-operatives.
Why I think Ag is Where It’s At: Visit the local museum or science centre, read a history book or simply take a drive outside city limits and you can’t help but notice that rural communities like those across the province are the backbone of our beautiful country. Agriculture fuels every part of our existence and our rural countryside feeds the world, supplies its energy and drives the economy. Now more than ever, it’s important for all Canadians, especially our youth, to be connected to our rural roots and to understand why we need agriculture to survive. There are few other industries that have more impact socially, economically and physically than agriculture. Many of our stories began in rural Alberta and I am so proud to be part of sharing that legacy, and to have the opportunity to ensure bright futures for co-operatives and our rural communities.
Why Ag for Life: At UFA we believe it’s essential to provide value that goes beyond a product and a price. As a co-operative, UFA believes strongly in its rural communities and we take immense pride in preserving and nurturing rural Alberta. At Ag for Life we have the unique opportunity to work together towards our common goal of improving the economic and social well-being of our agricultural owners and their communities.
